He's got some good points, especially about bringing in a statesman with global stature. Nothing against Condoleezza Rice, but she hasn't been very well received in the Middle East.

Anyway, that's about as ranty as I'm going to get today.

We're a blast from the past
Like old shotgun shells

I wonder if the new record is any good. I was going to buy it, but one track features the Dave Matthews Band and I just couldn't do it.

I almost got it too -- it's only $10.99 here. Then I saw the reviews... and AllMusic, which gave Quality Control five stars, slapped three stars on this one.

I bought Sonic Youth instead of Jurassic 5. It sounds like that chick in it is summoning Nico... which is the worst idea ever. Otherwise, it's alright.

The new Tom Petty is pretty solid.

since when don't you like Dave Matthews band?

I, uh, well, you know. I dunno.

We saw Sonic Youth open for Pearl Jam. I bet I would have liked it better if we had been in a good spot for the sound. They played the last chord of the last song for 10 minutes.

I really like playing those stupid flash ads where you have to outdance some girl or dig for diamonds or some crap. I play to lose, because I find it hilarious that the ads will actually make you start over to win in order to actually go to whatever they are offering.

See us! Hear us! It's mostly me. Yes, my Traynor drowned out the entire band. Whoop.

Among all the crazy/fun happenings of late (I suppose in some parallel universe, the release of the "Miami Vice" movie counts), for some reason I think this is important. Specifically, the failure of the U.S. to pursue options for an immediate cease-fire. I don't really feel like this is a political issue (left vs. right) so much as a basic human rights issue. We have the power to try and stop this conflict, but we refuse on the grounds that returning to the "status quo" is somehow worse than what is now over 600 civilian casualties and rising?

Anyway, I encourage you to write to your representatives about this issue, whether you agree with me or not.

I have played a show. It has left me wanting. I have the feeling this is only the beginning of a huge amount of work to get the group sounding good.

Well, time to dig in.

Wake up, everyone! It's Jellybean Tuesday!

This song is a butt-kicker. It qualifies for the "repeat 1" toggle.

Yeah, great closer (although I have the extended disc, so I never really hear it as a closer).

I was just thinking how Quarry is the one (behind Bona Drag, of course) I listen to the most. I think it has a very modern sound with a Brit-Pop outlook -- great production.

Sandman and Venom?
Bruce Campbell as Mysterio?

sign me up

1 Comments:

Blogger Justin said...

Yeah, but... four villains? I'm not sure they would do something like that (Mysterio is just a fan speculation). If they did, that's pushing it. I think.

"It was way better than I expected because you got to see Venom. He looked awesome," said John McCracken, 22.

Ahh, good ol' John McCracken, always throwing his 22 cents in.

At the Drive-In (ATDI) was a post-hardcore band from El Paso, Texas from 1993 until 2001 and was one of the most influential bands of the genre. The band takes their name from a lyric in the song "Talk Dirty To Me" by Poison.

...what?

Despite the awkward grammar of the title track, this Anberlin record is great. The Amazon reviewer is on crack if he thinks Switchfoot or D.C. Talk even came close.

"What do I have to do to make sure my number gets transferred to my new phone?" I wondered. Fortunately, the omniscient flyer in the box said I didn't have to do anything and the transfer would happen automatically within 48 hours. Since today marked 48 hours, I began to get anxious. Even though I had checked Cingular's website a million times, I checked again for any info. Finally, at the bottom of an obscure screen, I found this:

If you are transferring your number to Cingular, please call 1-866-895-1097 to check the status of your request.

Yep. A short phone call (and activation procedure) later, I'm all set. Sheesh.

Now I understand why myspace is so addicting. (Sort of.) Not for my own sake, but for my band, you know. It's great for networking and picking up shows.

I still think it's dumb.

Soul Asylum was on ... Leno? I think? They were much better than I thought they would be. Much better than they used to be, not whiny at all.

Went to a Hootie and the Blowfish concert the other night. They were also much better than I expected.

That's all, folks.

Mr Lamarr has made some intersting statements today (which were actually made last Saturday, or whenever), and it's given me some insight about the state of American journalism and my own preferences. First, here are the quotes:

"Everyone says, 'Wouldn't it be great if Buddy Holly had lived?' Of course it wouldn't be great, it would be terrible! He made loads of terrible records during his lifetime."

"I think it was the guy from Coldplay who said, 'For every good song I write, I write 99 bad ones. I'm not sure how the math works out, but I think he's written about 87 songs so far..."

It's not the negativity I'm interested in - although that is refreshing. It's the simple expression of an honest opinion, and that's where the American media falls short. I wouldn't go so far as to suggest abandoning the principle of impartiality, but I for one would watch the news more often if they offered more intelligent (and less pandering) commentary/editorials/jokes about political figures.

I just wanted to point out the strangest journalism I've ever come across.

Sisters teach brothers about the mysteries of girls; brothers teach sisters about the puzzle of boys.

It didn't quite happen that way, but in case you were wondering, boys are dumb.

Meanwhile, New Jersey is broken. I was trying to think of a punchline, but that's funny enough by itself. And how 'bout that governor, eh? Looks like an extra from Van Helsing.

I've discovered that the best way to take pills is to get a good mouthful of water. I used to think it was all in the pill positioning - makes sense, right? But no. Chuck it in, take a big gulp, and you're done. Those gigantic multivitamins don't seem so scary anymore.

As I drove around tonight (on a mission to get out of the house for a while), every time I passed the zoo (which was twice), the temperature dropped at least 10 degrees. I know this because I had my arm hanging out the window, and it got approximately 10 degrees chillier each time. And even though we're hitting 90 most days, I can still ride around with the windows open and stay cool. This is a new concept to me, and it most definitely does not work in Florida.
