Listening to: A really bad version of "This Charming Man" by Death Cab For Cutie
The above: not recommended. The intro sounds like the guitarist couldn't figure out how to play the riff so he just quit halfway through. The pacing is wrong, the vocals are SO wrong (the singer takes a delicate melody and grunts through it) ... everything is wrong.
Topic I'm interested in that I don't expect to get any comments about: best Smiths/Morrissey cover? A lot of bands don't do them justice because they don't take the time to perfect the guitars or vocals. I like Stars' version of "This Charming Man", but I think the Reel Big Fish cover of "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful" takes the prize.
Also, what is up with ringtones? Why do they always use the chorus, even on songs with a more memorable intro (read: "Sweet Child O' Mine")? I decided to buy some ringtones because the cable that would allow me to create my own and download them to my phone costs $60. So I figure a couple of bucks on ringtones is the lesser of two evils. I got some good ones - and William Shatner makes the funniest ones I've ever heard. "I'm William Shatner, and I'm begging you - pick up the phone. PICK ... UP ... THE PHONE, FOOL!"
