What is wrong with the world?
Hilary Duff has a #1 album. It's a freakin' compilation. The best tracks from ... her first 2 records.
Let's think about this. 208,000 copies were sold this week. I weep for the people who bought them.
Brad Paisley/Mariah Carey: This is acceptable. I can understand why people might want to buy these records. 302,000 total, so that makes me feel better about this Hilary thing.
NOW! That's What I Call Music? Stupid. 108,000 copies. I'll pretend they were bought to play at parties or as gifts for that person who has everything.
311: Never understood the appeal of these guys. Reggae rock from Omaha? But I'll take them over most of this other crap. 91,000 copies.
Black-Eyed Peas: Eh. I guess they aren't so bad. 82,000 copies.
Faith Hill/Kelly Clarkson/Young Jeezy: 196,000 total. I don't really care about any of these artists, but I give mad props to Young Jeezy for having the courage to go out on stage with a name like that. It's almost a cop-out rap name, because you can rhyme any of the "eezy" words with it. F'sheezy.
Killers "Hot Fuss" Limited Edition: The people that bought this are definitely suckers, because the bonus tracks are just one track from the British release and two B-sides. That's it. No new material. Makes me wonder if they've already tanked. 60,000 copies.
Click Five: Don't know 'em, don't care for 'em, just found out they're Berklee grads, so they can cram it. 52,000 copies.
Taproot sucks. Silverstein has a stupid name. Aly and AJ can also cram it.
Total worthless records bought this week: 1,099,000.
Average price of one worthless record: $12 (this is a conservative estimate)
Total money wasted on worthless records this week: $13,188,000
That, my friends, is a potential gold mine. All I have to do is make a record good enough to edge out all that crap. And get it promoted, and distributed. And work up a live show to take on the road.
(Anyone else ever wonder why record sales are always in nice round numbers?)
